Legendary Mount Popa on day tour :
Mount Popa, one of the emblematic sites of Myanmar, is an extinct volcano. On top of one of its rocks the sacred monastery Taung Kalat seats. It is considered home for 37 Burmese spirits (or nats). The staircase of 777 steps leads to the monastery. Once the top of the rock reached, you will be awarded with a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding valleys.
We would be also glad to offer you a choice: instead of climbing up to the monastery, you could make a pleasant walk in the nearby Mountain Popa National park (activities in the park such as horse riding are on supplement).
On the way back to Bagan you will stop in Salay. An important religious center of the past, the modern Salay is a peaceful small town of the Central Myanmar where foreign tourists are still rare guests. You will visit Yoke Sone monastery which houses cozy museum of the local history and arts and you could admire refined wood carvings of the building. You could not miss Mann pagoda as well. There you will see the giant bamboo Sitting Buddha image. The local legend says that in the 19th century this Buddha image was rescued from the flooding by the villagers. It is made of bamboo and gilded and is believed to be very old.
