One day sigh seeing tour to Bago :
Provincial town of Bago, located just 1.5 h drive from Yangon, concentrates more Buddhist temples than any other settlement of a similar size in Myanmar. Bago is one of the oldest towns in the country – the history of this ancient capital of the Mon Kingdom counts more than 1500 years.
You will visit Shwethalyaung Reclining Buddha image, one of the world’s largest. The Buddha image is believed to be more than one thousand years old and was miraculously re-discovered in the middle of the 20th century after a long time of oblivion and decline. The Golden God Temple – Shwemawdaw pagoda, the tallest Myanmar pagoda – is also on your “must-see” list in Bago as well as Kyaikpun pagoda, famous for its four gigantic Sitting Buddha images placed against the sides of a massive brick pillar. These are the highly revered images of Buddha Shakyamuni and his three predecessors.
On the way back to Yangon you will visit Tauk Kyaung War Cemetery which was established in commemoration of Allied soldiers and officers of the Commonwealth died in battles in Burma during WWI and WWII. This is the largest of the three Commonwealth War Cemeteries in Myanmar.
