The legend says Buddha’s holy hair relics were enshrined at
Shwedagon Pagoda, more than 2500 years ago. The pride and
the treasure of the country, Shwedagon Pagoda is now became
a must for every travelers to visit in Yangon. It rises
about 109 meters above the city and completely covered with
80 tons of pure gold. The architecture is so significant and
the most existing sightseeing in Yangon. |

Sule

At the heart of the city lies the landmark of Yangon City, Sule
Pagoda. The golden octagonal-shape pagoda rises about 46 meters
and is surrounded by small shops. Today, Sule Pagoda is well
recognized as the symbol of downtown from where the busy Yangon
downtown centre can be seen. |

The 72 meters long reclining Buddha Image is Chaukhtatgyi
Pagoda. It is remarkable for its size and charm. The original
Buddha Image was demolished and rebuilt in 1966 into today’s
structure. The glass montage of its feet represents the
one-hundred-and-eight characteristics of the Buddha. |

Botahtaung Pagoda |

The
golden pagoda spire rises to 40 meters, was named after the 1000
military leaders who escorted relics of Buddha, brought from
India over millenniums ago. The word Botahtaung means “1000
military leaders”. The Botahtaung Pagoda is hollow inside and
can be walked through in it. It is a sort of mirrored maze
inside the pagoda with glass show-cases containing many ancient
relics and artifacts which were sealed inside the earlier
pagoda. Just a few steps from the pagoda, there is a jetty where
you can observe the daily lives of local people. |

National Museum |

Priceless
ancient artifacts, works of art and
historic memorabilia are on display in 14 halls on four
storey of National Museum, located
just 10 minutes drive from downtown. The museum exhibits the
Lion Throne of the last Myanmar King, Royal Regalia of l9th
century, artifacts of various ancient periods, musical
instruments and paintings. Anyone who has made a tour of the
museum will come away with greater knowledge and understanding
of Myanmar and its people. It is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
everyday except Myanmar New Year holidays in April. |

Gem Museum
is located on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road, Yangon. Of the 100 counters
in the building mostly are privately owned, whereas a few
counters on the ground floor are run by the Myanmar Gems
Enterprise and Myanmar VES Joint Venture Co., Ltd. These three
floors of the Gems Museum and Gem Mart present the whole range
of Myanmar ruby, sapphire, peridot and a variety of assorted
colored stones, jade, pearls in lots or embedded in exquisite
jewellry, goldware, silverware and jade figurines. It is open
from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Monday and public
holidays. |
